Preparation and Standardization of 0.1 M Titanium Trichloride

Preparation and standardisation of 0.1 M Titanium Trichloride using 0.1 M ferric ammonium sulphate and ammonium thiocyanate solution as indicator.

    Titanium Trichloride Solution Preparation

    • Dilute 100 ml of titanium trichloride solution with 200 ml of hydrochloric acid.
    • Add sufficient freshly boiled and cooled water to produce 1000 ml.

    Titanium Trichloride Solution Standardization

    • Standardize the solution immediately before use by titrating with it in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide.
    • Titrate 25 ml of 0.1 M ferric ammonium sulfate (acidified with sulphuric acid) with the 0.1 M Titanium Trichloride solution, using ammonium thiocyanate solution as indicator.
    • 1 ml of 0.1 M ferric ammonium sulfate is equivalent to 0.01543 g of TiCl3.
